Around 50 residents from the property development site at Boeung Kok, gathered in front of the Ministry of Justice to seek the release of jailed land activist Yorm Bopha, Monday.
During the protest, residents held a religious ceremony which included the freeing of sparrows, cursed at judiciary officials working in the ministry and set fire to paper-made mockups of the Ministry of Justice.
They also presented a petition to Justice Minister, Ang Vong Vathana, demanding her release from Prey Sar prison where she has been kept for eight months.
Yorm Bopha, who was named a prisoner of conscious by Amnesty International, was sentenced in December of last year by the Phnom Penh Municipal Court to three years in prison and was ordered to pay a compensation of 30 million Riels to the two people she victimized.
She was arrested on September for intentional-violence charges, accusing her of ordering an axe attack on two motorcycle taxi drivers in Boeung Kok's village 22 on August 7.
