Phnom Penh City Hall allowed the opposition National Rescue Party (NRP) to march on Wednesday to the headquarters of the Election Committee, but warned that it also needs approval by the Ministry of Interior.
The decision was made Monday in a meeting between Phnom Penh authorities and representatives, Ho Vann and Kuy Bunroeun, from the NRP, an alliance between opposition Sam Rainsy and Human Rights parties.
Khuon Sreng, Phnom Penh deputy governor, said, city hall agreed with the distance they will travel from Democratic Park to the National Election Committee’s headquarter in Ministry of Interior, the route the opposition party plans to march, but it has to ask for the approval from the Ministry, adding that it is out of their capacity to give the full o.k. for the march.
The National Rescue Party will hold a protest with around 4,000 participants, to demand the National Election Committee accept recommendations from U.N special reporteur, and national and international non-government organizations.
